Aust punter passes NFL Eagles fitness test

After failing a basic fitness drill, Melbourne-born punter Brad Wing has regained face and been allowed to re-join his Philadelphia Eagles team-mates.

Australian NFL punter Brad Wing has been allowed to re-join his Philadelphia Eagles team-mates on the practice field after passing a fitness test.

Wing, who is locked in a battle with veteran big boot Donnie Jones for the Eagles' punting position, embarrassingly failed a basic conditioning drill on Monday.

He was forced to sit out Eagles pre-season training sessions until he passed the drill, which involved 20 or so sprints.

"There's no excuses at all," Wing, who managed to complete just half of the sprints, told the Delaware County Daily Times.

"I completely take full responsibility."

The Eagles announced on Friday Wing had been "activated" from the non-football injury list after passing a new test.

Eagles head coach Chip Kelly slammed Wing and another Eagles rookie, running back Matthew Tucker, after they failed Monday's sprints.

It is the latest negative headline for the talented Melbourne-born 22-year-old who was one of the elite punters in US college football while playing for Louisiana State University (LSU).

In 2011 Wing was arrested for battery after a scuffle and was suspended before LSU's final game last year for an undisclosed reason.

The Eagles will cut Wing or Jones before the start of the NFL season in September.
