Australia's eights crews have missed chances to advance directly to their finals at the world rowing championships in France.

In total, seven Australian crews qualified for their respective quarters, semis, or finals, while the remaining five must contest repechages.
The women's quad scull of Madeleine Edmunds, Kerry Hore, Jennifer Cleary and Jessica Hall booked a place in their final with an impressive victory.

Lightweight men's pair Darryn Purcell and Nick Silcox also finished first in their heat, while Tim McDonnell advanced in the lightweight men's single scull repechage.
The lightweight women's quad scull, who won a silver medal at the worlds last year, qualified for the A-final with a second place in their heat.
