Aust volleyball team beat Turkmenistan

After a shock loss to Qatar, the Australian men's volleyball team has beaten Turkmenistan at the Asian Men's Volleyball Championships in Tehran.

The Australian men's volleyball team has bounced back from a shock defeat on the opening day of the Asian Men's Volleyball Championships to notch up a straight sets win over Turkmenistan in Tehran.

The Volleyroos were surprise 3-1 losers to Qatar, ranked more than 30 places below the Australians, on Friday night, but had no trouble seeing off the 141st ranked Turkmenistan 25-11, 25-21, 25-22 on Saturday.

Qatar followed up their strong performance against Australia with a straight sets win over world number 39, India.

Australia, with a current world ranking of 13, will take on India in their final pool match on Sunday night, the Volleyroos needing to win to guarantee progression to the next round.

Although the Asian Championships have no impact on Olympic qualification, coach Roberto Santilli said in the lead-up to the tournament that he expected his team would challenge top seeds Iran for the title.
