Australia's Leigh Godfrey has become the first player in history to win medals at both baseball and softball world championships.
The 25-year-old Western Australian achieved her unique distinction in the space of a fortnight after the Australian women's baseball team, the Emeralds, defeated Canada 3-2 in the bronze medal match at the IBAF Women's World Cup in Japan.
The Emeralds had trailed 0-2 against Canada but recovered to win in seven innings.
Godfrey picked up her other medal two weeks earlier when she helped Australia win bronze at the softball world championships in Haarlem, Holland.
Pitcher Stephanie Gaynor starred in her best performance for the Emeralds, giving up only one hit and no runs after replacing Melinda Latimer in the second inning.
The win was welcome payback for Canada's bronze medal triumph over the Emeralds at the 2012 Women's Baseball World Cup.
It cements Australia's No.3 world ranking behind No.1 Japan and No.2 USA, and adds to their silver from the 2010 Women's World Cup in Venezuela.
