Aust women's 7s start season undefeated

Australia's women's rugby sevens team are into the Cup quarter-final at the season-opening Dubai tournament, having won all three games on day one.

Australia's women's rugby sevens team have started the 2017/18 season in perfect fashion, winning all three of their games on the opening day of the new campaign.

Australia play England in the quarter-finals of the Cup competition at the Dubai tournament on Friday, having beaten the English 22-7, Japan 27-0 and Russia 31-12 to top pool B on Thursday.

"It's great to be back playing ... however, if we play like we did today I don't think we're going to win the tournament.

"Defensively we leaked too many and in attack we were a bit indecisive, so if we can tighten up those two areas we'll be in a much better position to attack this tournament."

Also unbeaten on the opening day of the season were 2016/17 champions New Zealand and Canada.

Dubai is the first of five tournaments on the 2017/18 women's world series, ahead of the World Cup in San Francisco in July next year.
