Aust wrote favourable Adani mine letter

The Turnbull government has written to Beijing to dispel what it says is a misinformation campaign by the "radical left" against the Adani coal mine.

The Turnbull government has written to the Chinese government spruiking its support for the controversial Adani Queensland coal mine project.

Left-leaning think tank The Australian Institute used freedom of information laws to seek documents from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and was told it had "several hundreds of pages" relating to formal representations to foreign financiers.

Attorney-General George Brandis told a Senate estimates hearing on Thursday the government had made a representation to China "to dispel the misinformation campaign of those from the radical left".
