Austereo scramble to replace Kyle and Jackie O

Southern Cross Austereo has no replacement in mind for 2Day FM breakfast hosts Kyle and Jackie O, but it is wasting no time in finding one.

Auditions will begin this week to find a replacement for 2Day FM radio DJs Kyle and Jackie O as executives at Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) scramble to keep the advertising tied up in the top-rating breakfast show.

SCA head of content Chris Bruce told News Corp that some possible replacements were already on the table.

"We have a few combinations in mind, and we will begin experimenting with those next week," Bruce told Sydney's Daily Telegraph.

Sandilands and Jackie O (real name Jackie Henderson) announced during their show on Friday morning they will leave 2Day FM at the end of November after more than a decade on air together.

A statement on 2Day FM's website on Friday said the decision had been "mutual" and and had been made in consultation with Sandilands and Jackie O.

"Our focus will now turn towards developing a fantastic new show for 2014 with further announcements in due course," said the 2Day FM statement.

But speculation about the reason behind the duo's departure is focusing on the financials, with many radio broadcasters tightening their purse strings.

Sandilands and Jackie O were rumoured to be on multi-million dollar contracts at SCA.

There is speculation they are looking for a deal with another broadcaster, possibly for less money upfront but with a profit-share agreement that would allow them to continue earning the big bucks.

The next move for Sandilands and Jackie O remains unclear, but Jackie O told listeners on Friday the duo were "excited about the next chapter".

Bruce has denied Sandilands and Jackie O had become too expensive for the company, which has also cut other presenters in recent weeks.

In early October SCA pulled the plug on Matt Tilley and Jo Stanley's long-running breakfast show in Melbourne.

The pair will wrap up their FoxFM Matt & Jo Show at the end of the year.

Just a week later, SCA axed Triple M's Merrick Watts and The Highway Patrol, with Julian Schiller and Rachel Corbett.

There was conjecture that had been done so the network could afford to keep Kyle and Jackie O.
