Australia A peg India A 6-221 at stumps

Australia A have begun their Indian tour, pegging India A to 6-221 at stumps on day one in Chennai.

Australia A have kicked off their Indian tour with a grinding day's play to peg India A to 6-221 at stumps on day one in Chennai.

Opener KL Rahul (96) top scored for the home side on Wednesday but was eventually dismissed by Sean Abbott (1-23 off 14 overs).

Abbott and Australia's quicks kept the pressure on throughout the day's 37 Celsius degree heat, with Tasmanian paceman Andrew Fekete finishing with the day's best figures (2-38 from 17 overs).

Spinner Steven O'Keefe also picked up 2-66 off 19 overs.

"It was tough, it was quite warm out there," Fekete said.

"Once we got Rahul out it provided a good opportunity to build up the pressure and create some opportunities.

"It was that sort of day where you just had to grind away and the results came towards the end of the day."

Shankar Vijay (4 not out) and Amit Mishra (0 not out) will resume early on day two tomorrow after play was called off early due to bad light.

Australia A, captained by Usman Khawaja, will play two four-day matches against India A and then a one-day tri-series against India A and South Africa A starting on August 5.
