Australia wheeled out their big pitching weapons to telling effect to beat New Zealand 1-0 in the final of the Oceania men's softball championship.
After dominating the round-robin phase in Auckland, the world champion Black Sox batters failed to fire in Saturday's final.
They struggled against Adam Folkard and Andrew Kirkpatrick, who deliberately hadn't been used when the teams met twice in the leadup - games won 6-0 and 9-5 by New Zealand.
Kirkpatrick also grabbed the only run of the game, forcing a Black Sox fielding error in the first inning before scoring off a hit from Marshall Kronk.
New Zealand managed four hits to three but couldn't convert against the world No.3 ranked Australians.
Both teams swept Samoa twice each to book their places at next year's world championships in Canada. The top two teams from the three-nation tournament automatically qualified.
New Zealand won the world title in Auckland last year.
