Australia has ramped up emergency aid to Myanmar as an asylum seeker boat crisis leaves thousands of Rohingya refugees stranded at sea.

Australia has ramped up emergency aid to Myanmar as an asylum seeker boat crisis leaves thousands of Rohingya refugees stranded at sea.

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop says $6 million will be provided for emergency food and shelter.

The United Nations refugee arm will receive $2 million to provide shelter for displaced people in Rakhine and Kachin states, $3 million will go to the World Food Program and $1 million to an emergency response fund.
