Australia leads UN arms trade treaty

Australia has played a leading role at the United Nations in creating the world's first arms trade treaty for more than a decade.

More than 60 countries have signed up to the landmark agreement, which aims to bring transparency to the global trade that's worth almost 90-billion-dollars a year.

 

The treaty also aims to protect human rights and ensure that arms are not used for genocide or other crimes against humanity.
