Australia ninth seeds for Davis Cup draw

The draw for the revamped Davis Cup finals week has seen Lleyton Hewitt's Australia team seeded ninth.

Australia have been seeded ninth for the revamped Davis Cup finals week due to take place in Madrid in November.

Lleyton Hewitt's team completed a 4-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina in Adelaide on Saturday to qualify for the 18-team international team competition that has divided the tennis world.

The draw to decide the groups and quarter-final ties will take place in Madrid on February 14.

Based on their current Davis Cup Nations Ranking, Australia will be in pot two alongside Serbia, Italy, Germany and Kazakhstan.

Current Davis Cup champions Croatia have been seeded second while last year's runners-up France were named top seeds.

Belgium (4) and the United States (6) were also seeded alongside wildcards Great Britain (5) and Argentina (30).

The remaining nations ranked from 13 to 18 - Canada, Japan, Colombia, Netherlands, Russia and Chile - will be drawn into the third slot in the groups.

The winners of each group will advance to the knockout phase along with the two second-placed teams with the best percentage of sets, games and points won.

The 12 losing nations from last weekend's qualifiers will be part of the Zone Group competition draw on Wednesday, with their Davis Cup rankings deciding the group allocation.
