Australia rise to sixth on FIFA rankings

Australia's success at the Tournament of Nations has seen the Matildas improve to sixth on the latest FIFA world rankings.

The world champion United States women's soccer team have held on to the top spot in the latest FIFA rankings, while Australia have climbed two places to sixth.

Victories over Brazil and Japan in the US-hosted Tournament of Nations in July-August enabled the Matildas to improve their position.

Germany maintained second spot when the rankings were released on Friday while England moved up to third, swapping places with France.

Canada were unmoved in fifth while Australia were followed by Japan, Brazil, Sweden and the Netherlands, who rounded out the top 10.
