Australia the new javelin power: Mickle

Australia has overtaken the rest of the world in the women's javelin, says world championship silver medallist Kim Mickle.

Kim Mickle is revelling being the hunted, reckoning Australia has turned the tables on the world's javelin powers.

The world championship silver medallist believes Australia's talented batch of women's javelin throwers are now the global pacesetters.

"Australian women javelin is now the strongest in the world, it's insane - usually it's the Germans that you look towards and try and strive to be like," Mickle said on Friday.

"We have just surpassed them.

"Everyone is going to be looking at the Aussie girls going `what is in the water down there'.

"Normally I have to chase competition overseas but I think all of them overseas are going to chase us now."

Mickle returns to competition at the Adelaide Track Classic on Saturday, pitted against Victorian Kathryn Mitchell, who was fifth at the world championships, and emerging talent Kelsey-Lee Roberts.

The Adelaide event is Mickle's first meet since the world titles in Moscow last August.

"I just can't wait to get back into competing again, the last one was the best moment of my life," she said.

"I have no idea what I'm going to throw and that makes it so exciting."
