An Australian delegation campaigning for an ocean sanctuary off Antarctica says it's confident it will be achieved despite talks breaking down.
Two proposals were knocked back during a meeting in Germany of the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources, which includes 24 nations plus the European Union.
The leader of Australia's delegation, Dr Tony Fleming, says Australia is backing a proposal that would see almost 2-million square kilometres of coastal seas off East Antarctica protected.
Dr Fleming told Murray Silby there's still hope for a breakthrough at the next meeting of the Commission in Hobart in October.
