Members of Australia's Vietnamese community are lobbying the federal government to become more involved in trying to resolve territorial disputes in the South China Sea.

Two petitions, signed by thousands of members of the group calling itself the Vietnamese Community in Australia, have been tabled in federal parliament this week.

The VCA's President Tri Vo told Van Nguyen what prompted the petition.
