Australia v India day five snapshot

A snapshot of what happened on a rain-delayed fifth day at the MCG as India retained the Border-Gavaskar trophy.

AUSTRALIA V INDIA THIRD TEST SNAPSHOT

STATE OF PLAY: India first innings 7 (dec)-443, Australia first innings 151, India second innings 8 (dec)-106, Australia second innings 261. India win by 137 runs

MAN OF THE MATCH: Jasprit Bumrah snared a career-best 6-33 in the first innings and had nine wickets for the match. He's only the third Indian pace bowler to take eight or more wickets in a Test in Australia. That gives him 48 wickets in his debut Test year.

KEY MOMENT: Whatever faint hopes Australia had of a miracle were dashed when a superb delivery from Bumrah had Pat Cummins caught at first slip, ending his defiant knock of 63.

STAT OF THE DAY: After a rain delay that lasted more than two hours, it took 27 deliveries for India to finish off Australia and take an unbeatable 2-1 lead.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: "You have to put it into perspective - we're probably playing against the best attack in the world at the moment and we have a very inexperienced lineup." - Australian captain Tim Paine on their batting woes.
