STATE OF PLAY: India won the toss and batted, 2-215 at stumps

MAN OF THE DAY: Opener Mayank Agarwal made 76, the highest score by an Indian player on debut in Australia.

KEY MOMENTS: Cheteshwar Pujara (68no) had a nervous moment on 33 when his edge off Mitch Marsh fell just short of gully. Virat Kohli (47no) chased a wide Mitch Starc delivery three overs before stumps and wicketkeeper Tim Paine failed to glove a tough chance.

STAT OF THE DAY: The crowd of 73,576 is a record single day's attendance for Australia v India Tests in Australia.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: "Mitch worked his bum off today. He bowled exceptionally well ... I don't think any Australian cricketer in Australia deserves to be booed. I understand the Victorian crowd (but) ... it's disappointing" Australian teammate Travis Head on Mitch Marsh, who was booed by sections of the MCG crowd when he came on to bowl. Marsh replaced Victorian Peter Handscomb for the Boxing Day Test.
