Australia v India day two snapshot

A snapshot of what happened on day two of the third Test between Australia and India at the MCG

AUSTRALIA V INDIA THIRD TEST SNAPSHOT

STATE OF PLAY: India first innings 7 (dec)-443, Australia first innings 0-8

MAN OF THE DAY: Indian No.3 Cheteshwan Pujara scored his second century of the series. His marathon 106 from 319 balls was the foundation of the Indian innings as they set about grinding down the Australian attack..

KEY MOMENTS: As the temperature rose into the mid-30s and India batted and batted on a lifeless MCG pitch, Australia had to do everything right. But three dropped catches - two in successive deliveries - off the bowling of hapless spinner Nathan Lyon were twists of the dagger.

STAT OF THE DAY: India batted for 169.4 overs - the longest Test innings at the MCG since 1983.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: "He's f***ing done it again mate! How dumb are ya?" Late in the Indian innings, Australian paceman Mitchell Starc is unimpressed with Rishabh Pant's running between the wickets.
