Australian ambassador summoned over spying

An Indonesia expert says he doesn't expect relations between Australia and Indonesia will be dramatically affected by claims of Australia's alleged involvement in United States spying in the Asia-Pacific.

An Indonesia expert says he doesn't expect relations between Australia and Indonesia will be dramatically affected by claims of Australia's alleged involvement in United States spying in the Asia-Pacific.

Indonesia has summoned Australia's ambassador to answer questions over allegations stemming from American whistleblower Edward Snowden that it was involved in U-S surveillance operations in the region, including through its embassy in Jakarta.

Indonesia says such activities, originally reported in the Australian media, would be totally unacceptable.

Professor Greg Barton is an Indonesia expert from Monash University in Melbourne.

Kristina Kukolja asked him how serious the accusations are.
