Australian-born professional footballer Josip Simunic has gone to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland, in a bid to overturn a 10-match ban imposed over pro-Nazi chants.

The 35-year-old, who plays for the Croatian national team, is appealing against the ban imposed by football's world governing body, FIFA, that would see him miss out on the World Cup in Brazil.

Simunic was disciplined over chants he made after a World Cup qualifier last year that were associated with the pro-Nazi Croatian government during the Second World War.

Al Jazeera Balkans sports reporter Stipe Sladoljev spoke with Kristina Kukolja about the case.
