Australian National Anthem fudged at Wallabies-Argentina Pumas game

Their faces say it all. Bemused Wallabies could only laugh at Argentine singer Marcelo Zelada’s questionable rendition of the Australian National Anthem.

Singing before the Rugby Championship game between the Wallabies and Argentina’s Pumas, Zelada clearly didn’t know the words and resorted to gibberish.

He made it through the first line of the Anthem without any trouble, but seems to hesitate in the second, singing something like “For… we are lert a zee.”

It only gets worse. His voice booms through the parts he can remember: “beauty rich and rare!”, “Advance Australia Fair!” But he mumbles through the other parts like a child in school assembly.

When it finally finished, a few players looked at each other grinning from ear to ear.

“Well that’s an interesting take on Advance Australia Fair,” said Fox Sports rugby commentator Greg Clark.

The result of the game was a historic win for Argentina, 21-17.
