Leaked documents have shown Australian intelligence officers tried to listen to the phone conversations of Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the ABC reports.

The top-secret internal documents circulated within the Defence Signals Directorate (now known as the Australian Signals Directorate) claim Australian officials tracked information on the Indonesian leader's mobile phone for 15 days in August, 2009.

Other names on a list of at least 10 people targeted by intelligence officials include First Lady Kristiani Herawati and Vice President Boediono.

The information was contained within documents leaked by former NSA employee Edward Snowden, the national broadcaster claims.

More to come.
