How the thrilling final round of the Australian Open unfolded

HOW THE DRAMATIC FINAL ROUND OF THE AUSTRALIAN OPEN UNFOLDED

9:38am: Rod Pampling tees off at four over par, 14 strokes adrift of overnight leader Matt Jones in a tie for 35th place.

12:07pm: Adam Scott tees off at one under, nine shots off the pace.

12:40pm: Matt Jones tees off alongside defending champion Jordan Spieth holding a three-shot lead over the world No.1. Both players bogey the first hole.

1pm: Spieth bogeys and Jones takes double-bogey to have his lead cut by a stroke.

1:15pm: Pampling sinks an eagle putt from 70 feet to finish his round in a course-record 61 and seize the clubhouse lead, just two shots behind Jones.

2pm: Jones restores his overnight three-shot lead at nine under overall with a birdie on the sixth.

2:40pm: Jones hits a tree and finds water as he triple-bogeys the ninth to go four over for the day and drop back into a share of the lead with Pampling.

3pm: Spieth makes it a three-way tie for the lead with a birdie on the 11th.

3:01pm: Three becomes four as Scott birdies the 14th to get to six under alongside Pampling, Jones and Spieth.

3:14pm: Jones holes from the bunker to save par on the 12th, while Spieth drops a shot to fall one shot back.

3:40pm: Scott drains a 20-feet clutch putt to save par on the 17th.

3:45pm: Jones misses his eagle putt but birdies the par-5 14th to take sole possession of the lead at seven under as Spieth birdies too to go to six under alongside Scott and Pampling.

3:59pm: Pampling's dream is over as Scott birdies the 18th to claim the clubhouse lead with a 65 to join Jones at seven under.

4:07pm: Jones birdies the 16th to take sole possession of the lead at eight under.

4.35pm: Spieth misses a 15-foot eagle putt to force a playoff as Jones holds his nerve with a one-metre par putt at the last to win the 100th Australian Open.
