Australian u-23s pull off rare triple-play

Australia completed a rare triple play on the way to beating Taiwan to maintain their unbeaten run at baseball's under-23s World Cup in Mexico.

Australia have pulled off the first-ever triple play seen at baseball's under-23 World Cup as they downed defending champions Taiwan to remain undefeated.

The tense 8-7 victory in Saltillo, Mexico was Australia's third win from as many matches and they sit atop Group B.

The triple play came with Australia down 6-7 in the bottom of the fifth innings.

Australia's second baseman Sam Kennelly reached overhead at full stretch to catch out the Taiwanese batter.

Kennelly then quickly flipped the ball to short-stop Jacob Younis for the second out at second base before Younis threw to first baseman Connor MacDonald to complete the rare feat and end the innings.

McDonald was also a star with the bat, hitting a three-run bomb to give Australia a 4-0 lead in the first innings.

Younis tied the game in the eighth with a solo home run before Australia took the lead in the extra 10th inning with a bases-loaded walk.

They held onto the lead thanks to pitcher Josh Guyer's final innings lock-down.

Australia will take on Argentina on Monday (Tuesday morning AEDT) in its penultimate group game.
