Cow onesie-clad Australians are attempting to create a new Guinness World Record for the "largest gathering of people dressed as cows" at the Deja Moo Country Fair in Cowaramup, about 250 kilometres south of Perth.

They're trying to beat the current record set last year by 470 people in Fairfax, Virginia in the USA.

Festival-goers had the option of purchasing an official onesie or making their own costume but they had to adhere to strict Guinness guidelines:

"A full costume consists of a white one or two piece suit with black spots, including feet and a headpiece. The headpiece can be a hood attached to the costume which has ears attached, or a full cow head. Painting the face white and black is acceptable, but optional."
