Australia's rivalry with Kiwis hits a high

Australia's sporting rivalry with New Zealand will hit a high with the nations meeting in three different sports this weekend.

Dear New Zealand, what's better than beating you at rugby? Crushing your dreams in other sports at the same time. Love, Australia.

Australia's sporting rivalry with the Kiwis reaches tipping point this weekend.

Not only do the Wallabies have a chance to claim rugby's Bledisloe Cup on Saturday for the first time in 13 years, Australia's netballers and basketballers will also stir up their rivals from across the ditch.

In netball - with everything going to plan - Australia and New Zealand will meet in the World Cup final on Sunday in Sydney.

And in basketball, the nations' men and women meet in Melbourne on Saturday in the opening leg of qualifying games for next year's Rio Olympics.

The trans-Tasman battles will shape the sporting landscape, particularly in netball and rugby where the Wallabies seek to end an almighty hoodoo.

The Wallabies must halt a 29-year winless streak at Auckland's imposing Eden Park to capture the coveted Bledisloe - and take bragging rights ahead of the looming World Cup.

"We know this week will be another huge challenge for the team and our biggest test to date," Wallabies coach Michael Cheika said on Thursday.

The Bledisloe battle will - hopefully from an Australian-New Zealand view - precede the Netball World Cup final on Sunday between the nations.

The dream fixture depends on both doing as they should - winning - in Saturday's semis.

A cup decider would also give Australia the opportunity to avenge their horror five-goal loss to the Kiwis in the group stage.
