Australia's Winter Olympians have a good chance for glory: coach

Australia's Winter Olympic hopefuls have been fine turning their preparations at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra as part of a combined training camp.

Moguls skier Matt Graham says the team is set for its best Olympics yet, and longtime Winter Olympic coach John Marsden agrees with him.

It's the same at every Olympics - six months out the hard work really steps up, and the tension grows.

But for the 50 or 60 Australian athletes that will get on the plane to South Korea's Pyeongchang next February the goal is to end the miserable run that saw Australia return from Sochi in Russia four years ago without a gold medal.

Moguls skier Matt Graham thinks it might happen.

"Hopefully this will be our best Olympics, I have definitely got high expectations of myself," he told SBS World News.

John Marsden, head of athletes preparation at the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia, told SBS World News that South Korea could easily deliver multiple medals for Australia.

"There's probably eight to 10 kids who could podium."

One thing is certain for all the team members - they need to stay fit and not risk too much in the next six months of preparation once they get on the snow in their various Northern Hemisphere camps in November.

Matt Graham says there's a fine line between going too hard and making a massive mistake that could end their Olympic dreams. "And then its game over," he says.

Australia's sports loving fans will be hoping the game over signs will start flashing for the Green and Gold's opponents when the Olympics begin in February.
