Automobile Association drives election ads

The Australian Automobile Association has released its election wishlist of transport infrastructure priorities.

Drivers are being encouraged to direct their traffic jam frustrations to wannabe federal MPs as a way of getting more cash for roads.

Increasing congestion and lack of public transport threatens national productivity, the Australian Automobile Association says.

The AAA wants every candidate to understand why their community can't be part of the economy of the future while it relies on the transport infrastructure of the past, chief executive Michael Bradley said on Monday.

The group is launching an advertising campaign in which it encourages its eight million members to ask candidates to commit to a bipartisan approach to transport and infrastructure.

It wants a transport infrastructure fund set up with a dedicated portion of petrol tax revenue.

It also wants to see more federal funding for public transport, and commitments towards $90 billion worth of priority transport projects.
