Awards draw blank for some Aussies

New research shows a gap in the knowledge of many Australians when it comes to the annual national awards.

More than one in three Australians are unaware of the Australian of the Year awards.

The research is revealed in the latest annual report of the National Australia Day Council released on Thursday.

It found 63 per cent of those surveyed had "unprompted awareness" of the annual awards, despite the award ceremony attracting a television audience of 814,000 viewers and 400,000 people tuning in to the ceremony on ABC local radio.
