Baby death inquest to start in Tasmania

The death of a 45-day-old boy in Tasmania's northwest will be put under the spotlight with a coroner to open an inquest.

A Tasmanian coroner will open an inquest into the 2012 death of a six-week-old boy who died in the state's northwest.

Bjay Johnstone was 45 days old when he died and his father, Simon Adam Johnstone, has since been jailed for mistreating the baby, the ABC reported.

State coroner Olivia McTaggart will open a 10-day inquest on Wednesday in Devonport.
