A baby boy has died five days after being struck by a forklift in regional Victoria.

The nine-month-old's father was at the wheel of the forklift when the accident happened at a Moolap automotive workshop on Saturday night.

The baby was airlifted to the Royal Children's Hospital in a critical condition but died on Thursday.

It's believed the baby was crawling on the floor of the Blackley Automotive car restoration business, but Victoria Police say it's unclear how the accident occurred.

The Victorian WorkCover Authority is also looking into the circumstances.
