Baby recovering from meningococcal in WA

A baby is recovering from meningococcal disease in a West Australian hospital, the 13th case reported in the state so far this year.

A baby is recovering in a West Australian hospital after being diagnosed with the potentially deadly meningococcal disease.

The infant was infected with W serogroup, which is behind a recent increase in the number of total cases in the state.

There have been 13 cases in WA so far this year, compared to 46 cases last year. Cases peaked at 86 in 2000 and fell to a low of 16 in 2013.
