Prime Minister Tony Abbott is urging Labor to support the budget's childcare package, saying the opposition should put the national interest first.
Mr Abbott expects Labor to "begrudgingly" support the budget's small business package, but wants backing for reprioritising other expenditure where it would do the most good, such as changes to family tax benefits that would fund better childcare support.
"This is not just good for families, it's good for our economy and again, I would urge the Labor Party to put the national interest first," he told reporters in Canberra on Monday.
