P - Aaron Baddeley's last hole bogey cost him dearly as American Kevin Streelman birdied the last seven holes to win the US PGA Tour's Travelers Championship.

Streelman shot his second straight six-under-par 64 at TPC River Highlands in Connecticut to finish at 15-under 265 - breaking the 58-year-old tour record for consecutive closing birdies by a winner of six held by Mike Souchak.

Sergio Garcia and K.J. Choi tied for second after both shooting 67s.

Seeking his first win in three years, Australian Baddeley came to the last hole needing a birdie to force a playoff with Streelman.

But he hit his tee shot into the right rough, left his approach shot short and took bogey which dropped him to outright fourth on 267 with a 69.

He earned $US297,600 ($A321,990) while Streelman collected $US1,116,000 ($A1.21 million) and Garcia and Choi both pocketed $US545,600 ($A590,320).

The 35-year-old Streelman won the Tampa Bay Championship last season but he had missed the cut in his previous four starts on tour.

"I didn't have too many expectations coming here," Streelman said.

Streelman was one over for the day before starting the birdie run on No.12.

The streak reached five with a 37-foot putt at No.16, and he capped it by hitting a wedge to nine feet and rolling in another putt at No.18.

Streelman said he hasn't focus on golf exclusively lately, trying to spend more time with wife Courtney and six-month-old daughter Sophie.

"I was thinking about her (Sophie) on those last couple of putts. I was thinking, 'You know what? If these go in, great. If not, great. She's going to love me either way and we have a nice family vacation coming up either way,"' Streelman said.

Garcia has six top-10 finishes in 10 PGA Tour starts this season, and won the European Tour's Qatar Masters in January.

"At the end of the day he played really, really well," Garcia said about Streelman. "I feel like I played quite nicely and it just wasn't my time."
