Footage of rowdy drunken London Tube passengers has gone viral in the UK, with one woman's bagels seemingly at the centre of several altercations and which were eventually broken up by police.

Twitter user Dougie Stew, who filmed the incident on the late-night train service, has been in hot demand from news outlets around the country.

“These girls were grabbing bagel after bagel from their handbags and just putting them on people’s heads and singing," British newspapers quote Stew as saying.

"The only word that does it justice is surreal. It was completely and utterly surreal," he reportedly said.

The footage shows several altercations, with the carriage at times breaking into song.

"He's got a bagel on his head," passengers sung to the tune of 'He's Got The Whole World in His Hands.'

Police are shown arriving at the end of the video, asking a subdued carriage of castigated passengers to come forward with information.

"Let's be clear, no bagel should be treated so cruelly, and no one subjected to intimidating behaviour," British Transport Police later tweeted.

The bagels appear to have been sourced by passenger Lucy Bonner, whose grandmother works at a bagel shop.
Tabloid newspapers have pounced on the story, with Twitter users posting mixed reactions.

Some have found the bizarre video hilarious, others have said the behaviour shown is disgraceful.

"Looked to me like a whole train of drunk w*****s bullying someone and no one speaking out against it," Twitter user Brian Bethune wrote.
