A fugitive groom is still on the run a week after skipping out on his new bride and Melbourne police.

Murat Shomshe, 33, was granted weekend release after telling County Court judge Richard Maidment he wouldn't get his $6000 deposit back if his wedding was cancelled.

Judge Maidment expressed concerns before releasing Shomshe on a $10,000 surety to marry his sweetheart in front of 473 guests on July 26, despite opposition from police.

"I'm concerned a little bit about the fact there is a firearm out there. The fact that there is a complainant who is probably justified to be in fear, and the fact (Shomshe) has convictions for possessing prohibited weapons," Judge Maidment said before imposing strict bail conditions.

Shomshe was supposed to return to the County Court on July 27 prior to returning to jail.

Instead he fled, reportedly while his bride was taking a shower.

Shomshe has skipped bail three times before, has a history of violence and access to guns, Victoria Police chief commissioner Graham Ashton says.

"Some of the people he's associating with seem to connect him to some of the bikie gang side of things," he told 3AW.

Detective Senior Sergeant David Snare said officers had last seen Shomshe the morning he was due to return to custody, but would not say where.

Shomshe, who has a Southern Cross tattoo on the right side of his face, is known to frequent Epping, Altona, Werribee and Coburg.

Police have urged him to hand himself in.

A County Court spokeswoman confirmed the wedding did proceed as planned.
