NSW Premier Mike Baird has been urged to explain holes in his official diary which coincide with a visit to China.

In an adjournment debate speech to the Senate overnight NSW Labor Senator Sam Dastyari demanded Mr Baird provide meeting summaries revealing who he met and what he discussed in China, which is a requirement under state law.

Unions claim the government is planning to sell off the state's electricity assets to the Chinese.

It's been revealed that Treasurer Andrew Constance met with the State Grid Corporation of China - the largest state-owned electric utilities company in the world.
