NSW Premier Mike Baird has publicly staked his job over his government's infrastructure plan.

He described his plan to lease state's assets to the tune of $20 billion as a once in a lifetime opportunity to unlock future infrastructure opportunities that would "change people's lives".

"This is going to be a tough election," Mr Baird told Macquarie Radio.

"I am willing to put my job on the line because this is not a career for me.

"I view this as an opportunity, a once in a generation opportunity to make a difference to this state.

"I believe in it. Obviously my job is to convince the people of NSW ... but it is something to lose my job over."
