Baird says election 'tight' despite polls

NSW Premier Mike Baird says the election will be tight, despite polls showing he is set for a clear victory in Saturday's election.

Opinion polls predict a resounding coalition victory but NSW Premier Mike Baird says the election will be tight.

"We're going to fight for every vote," he told ABC Radio.

The coalition government is set to win many marginal seats it expected to lose, including Campbelltown, Coogee and The Entrance, according to a Galaxy poll conducted for The Daily Telegraph last week.

Polls also showed the coalition leading Labor 54-46 per cent on a two-party preferred basis, according to the latest Ipsos poll by Fairfax Media.

Mr Baird said opposition leader Luke Foley had been using the federal government's difficulties to target the NSW coalition.

"I've seen the leader of the opposition is now out there this week in an increasingly desperate way, wanting to say he's going to organise party room votes in the coalition down in Canberra after this election," he said.

Mr Baird has distanced himself from the federal government, saying voters were aware his government was tackling state issues.

"Obviously the federal government has gone through some difficult times but this election is about our record," he said.

Newscorp predicts the premier might lose as few as 10 seats in Saturday's election.

It tips the coalition to win 57 seats in the legislative assembly and Labor to win 33 or 34, depending on how the Greens poll in Sydney's inner-west.
