Bale out of Real's Cup clash with Atletico

MADRID (Reuters) - Gareth Bale has been left out for Real Madrid's King's Cup semi-final first leg at home to Atletico Madrid later on Wednesday, suggesting the Wales winger has yet to recover from a calf problem.

Bale missed the last two matches after sustaining the injury last month but coach Carlo Ancelotti said on Tuesday he was "in good shape" and would be available for a repeat of last season's final won 2-1 by Atletico.

He was included in Tuesday's initial squad for the match at the Bernabeu but when Real named their starting line-up and the list of substitutes he did not make the final cut. The club did not say why he had been omitted.

Bale's debut season in Spain has been disrupted by a series of minor injuries following the 24-year-old's move from Tottenham Hotspur for a world record fee of 100 million euros (82 million pounds).
