An academic and a friend of one of the two Australians on death row in Indonesia has highlighted the positive impact of Myuran Sukumaran's art project in the Bali prison.

Sukumaran continues to hold art classes for his fellow prisoners in Kerobokan prison while the Bali Nine member waits to hear the date of his execution.

Sukumaran's Norwegian friend, Oivind Klungseth Zahlsen says the art classes provide a new identity for the inmates.

He spoke to Zara Zaher about his friend's vision for the art rehabilitation program.
