The families of executed Bali Nine ringleaders Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran say the pair was immensely grateful for all the support they received.

"In the ten years since they were arrested, they did all they could to make amends, helping many others," the families said in a statement issued on Wednesday, hours after the pair were executed in Indonesia.

"They asked for mercy, but there was none."
