Bali police are looking into who else was at a so-called "drug party" that has landed a Sydney resident in custody and facing serious drugs charges.

Leeza Ormsby was arrested last Wednesday after a police raid on a Canggu villa, and remains in a Bali police cell.

Officers allege they found marijuana in the New Zealander's handbag and, when they searched the villa, they also found hashish, MDMA, electric scales, tape and plastic wrap.

Police are considering charging Ormsby with drug distribution, an offence that carries a maximum 20-year jail term in Indonesia.

Police were expected to hold a media conference on the case in Bali on Friday, but called it off shortly before it was due to start.

Ormsby, 37, told police there had been a party at the villa in the days before her arrest, but her five friends had since left Bali.

It's understood police are looking into who the three men and two women are.

There are reports the villa was rented by an Australian man, by the name "Azaria", who checked out the day before Ormsby was arrested.

Police are also understood to be seeking someone named "Marco".

One of Ormsby's Sydney flatmates claims the shop assistant had not been working in the days before she left her shared Paddington terrace for Bali, a trip she didn't tell her friends about.

He said she had been feeling stressed and wanting to get away.

More details emerged on Friday about the Rotorua-born woman's background.

New Zealand website stuff.nz reports Ormsby was adopted and raised in Australia with a brother, Michael.

Her biological mother, Rangi Morrison, also lives in Australia, working south of Perth in the shearing industry.

Ms Morrison declined to comment to AAP on Friday, but it's understood members of the family are preparing a statement on Ormsby's arrest.
