The boss of Warrington says the UK rugby league club still hopes to sign Chris Sandow but concedes his contract dispute with Parramatta could ruin their chances as time ticks away.
Only 72 hours remain before Friday's Super League cut-off for mid-season transfers and Sandow is reportedly still weighing up a $50,000 severance deal offered by the Eels.
Warrington CEO Roger Draper said the side was still keen to get the troubled No.7 on board because he's capable of "putting bums on seats", but added the ball was in his court.
"Obviously we're interested in Chris, but there's a lot to sort out down there. We're awaiting news on a daily basis as to what the situation is," Draper told News Corp Australia.
"We're always looking for world-class players, sometimes these things come off, sometimes they don't, and we'll see how this one plays out."
The Eels have indicated they're willing to release Sandow from the final months of his deal as long as they don't have to pay him out the full amount of his contract.
"The ball is in Chris' court," Draper said.
"Hopefully all those issues can be resolved with Parramatta, and we can then have another discussion before the Super League deadline on Friday.
"We'll take it one day at a time and see what plays out."
Sandow may have played his final game with the Eels after accepting a two-match NRL ban for a shoulder charge.
He took the early guilty plea for a tackle on Canterbury fullback Brett Morris in the Eels' loss to the Bulldogs on Friday night.
