Fiery Fremantle forward Hayden Ballantyne says coach Ross Lyon holds his players accountable for everything - and the tough-love policy is paying off.

After battling suspension and poor form in the early part of the 2014 AFL season, Ballantyne has booted 21 goals in his side's past six matches. The Dockers have won all those games and sit fourth on the ladder with a 10-4 record.

Ballantyne will play his 100th game when 2013 runners-up Fremantle face Melbourne in Darwin on Saturday night.

"He points out the things you need to work on, and is just at you and at you and at you until you improve it," Ballantyne told the AFL's website on Wednesday.

"Just little things like recovery, and all the smaller things that I probably wasn't at the elite level like Matthew Pavlich and Luke McPharlin and blokes like that.

"That's really helped because Ross holds everyone so accountable to everything."

Ballantyne says his main focus is on consistency, and he says Lyon judges his players on effort.

"Just doing what I'm asked to do every single week, and the goals come after that," Ballantyne said.

"All the pressure and pressure acts for the team, and then the goals come from that, from the turnovers."
