Thousands of illuminated white balloons have floated up into the night sky in the German capital to celebrate the toppling of the Berlin Wall 25 years ago.
The light installation ran a 15-kilometre stretch through the once-divided city along the route of the Berlin Wall whose opening on November 9, 1989 led to German reunification less than a year later.
The release on Sunday of the nearly 7000 glowing balloons was the climax of commemorations and festivities rounding off a massive open-air party at the Brandenburg Gate.
