Bandit trashes Qld servo with chainsaw

A bandit with a bucket on his head and armed with a running chainsaw has left a trail of destruction at a Queensland petrol station.

A man with a bucket on his head has used a chainsaw to carve up a service station after the attendant refused to hand over cash.

The would-be bandit walked into the service station at Ipswich about 4.30am (AEST) on Monday, wearing a bucket on his head and holding a running chainsaw.

When the attendant refused demands to hand over money, he walked out swinging the chainsaw. Parts of the store were damaged, as was a car parked outside.

Police arrested a 19-year-old man a short time later.

He has been charged with armed robbery, going armed so as to cause fear, public nuisance and two counts of wilful damage and will face Ipswich Magistrates Court on Monday.
