The most instagrammed place of 2013 is not a world-famous geographical landmark nor a site of great cultural significance.

Instead, the unlikely topper of this list is a mammoth shopping mall in Bangkok, Thailand, called Siam Paragon.

The mall, announced in a blog post as the most Instagrammed location of 2013, is a massive shopping complex, encompassing a cinema and an aquarium.

With Thailand scooping two top locations in as many years on the Instagram list (last years victor was Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport), a love of social media and sharing every moment online within the southeast Asian nation is evident.

The rest of the top ten entrants were all located in the United States, including New York's Times Square, Disneyland in California and Disney World in Florida.

Europe was the loser of the list, with its sole 2012 entrant- the iconic Eiffel Tower- falling off the list altogether.

The full list:

  1. Siam Paragon shopping mall, Bangkok
  2. Times Square, New York
  3. Disneyland, California
  4. Bellagio Fountains, Las Vegas
  5. Disney World Florida
  6. Staples Center, Los Angeles
  7. Central Park, New York
  8. Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles
  9. Suvarnabhumi Airport, Bangkok
  10. The High Line, New York
