Bangladesh roll Zimbabwe for 240 in Test

Bangladesh have bowled out Zimbabwe for 240 on the opening day of the first Test in Dhaka, with left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan taking 6-59.

Shakib Al Hasan grabbed 6-59 as Bangladesh dismissed Zimbabwe for 240 in their first innings on Saturday's opening day of the first Test in Dhaka.

The left-arm spinner ripped through Zimbabwe's lower order after tea with impeccable bowling that brought him his 12th five-wicket haul.

Opening batsman Sikandar Raza top-scored with 51 including six fours, while Craig Ervine made 34, but the visitors struggled against the Bangladeshi spinners on the slow wicket at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.

Elton Chigumbura (29) and captain Brendan Taylor (28) also contributed.

Raza and Taylor added 52 for the third wicket to help Zimbabwe settle before Bangladesh fought back with three quick wickets after lunch.

Raza, playing in just his second Test, had to be watchful as the pitch gradually became slow and low.

He was supported by Taylor initially before newcomer Juabair Hossain induced him with a flighted delivery to take his maiden wicket.

After Raza, Ervine held Zimbabwe together but he too fell for a needless shot to hasten his side's collapse.

Apart from Shakib's six, Hossain returned figures of 2-58 while Shahadat Hossain and Taijul Islam claimed one wicket apiece.
